Actions
:
Meclizine has
antihistaminic , anticholinergic , CNS depressant and
local anesthetic effects.
Pyridoxine( VIT B6)
is water-soluble vitamin.
Mechanism of action / effect
Meclizine is an antiemetic ; antivertigo
agent – may be related to its central anticholinergic
actions it diminshes vestibular stimualtion and
depresses labyrinthine Actions
An action on the medullary chemoreceptive
trigger zone may also be involved in the antiemetic
effect.
Indications :
Nausea and Vomiting associated with
;
1)Pregnancy : one tablet at night
before sleeping
2)Radiotherapy : 1-2 tablet 2 hour before
radiotherapy
Vertigo and Dizziness associated with
;
1) Motion Sickness: ( prophylaxis and
treatment) 1-2 tablet one hour before traveling
2) Benign Positional Vertigo (BPV): (
Prophylaxis and
treatment )due to previous ear
infection or head injury
or unknown cause
1-2 tablet can repeated after 12 hours
till the end of episode.
3) Vestibular System Diseases: (
Prophylaxis and treatment)
e.g.
Méniér’s disease
Used compatible with antibacterial
drugs as in
Labyrinthitis
Dosage : 1 - 2 tablet each
