CosmoFer^® : Each 2ml ampoule gives 100mg elemental iron

Indications : Treatment of iron deficiency anaemia in following indications:

- Intolerance to oral iron

- Clinical need to deliver iron rapidly to iron store

- Lack of effect of oral iron

Administration :

as Injection in the Dialyser

as Total dose Infusion

as Intramuscuslar injection

as Intravenous Injection

as Intravenous Infusion

Dosage – how is this calculated ?

Total dose (mg Iron) =

Body Weight [kg] * (target Hb – actual Hb[g/dl] * 0,24 + mg Iron for iron stores

The figures are Factor: 0,0034 * 0,007 * 1000 = 0,24

based on a target Hb of 15 g/dl or 9.3 mmol / l and iron stores 500 mg which apply to b.weight exceeding 35kg

Test dose has to be given first time

• 25 mg Iron (equal to 1/2 ml solution)add 25 ml salin or gulose to be given

in 15 minutes.

• Watch patient for 30 – 60 minutes

•Give the remaining dose

Note: The table and accompanying formula are Applicable for dose determination only in patients with iron deficiency anaemia . They are not for dose determination in patients requiring iron replacement for blood loss.

Total Dose Infusion
(e.g. for Pre-dialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis-Patients)

Calculate the total dose needed according to dosage table

Add the amount to 500 ml 0,9% NaCl solution or 5%

First 25 mg to be given over 15 min. Watch for adverse events

Remaining part to be infused slowly within next 4 to 6 Hours

(rate of infusion can be increased to maximum 45 – 60

Watch the patients during the Infusion and for 1 hour for Adverse Events
